Both MAZDA 3 engines are advanced, all-aluminum, 16-valve, DOHC designs. Both also utilize variable valve timing to optimize low-end torque, high-rpm power and fuel efficiency. A dialed-in 6-speed manual gearbox is standard on all MAZDA 3 s models. A fuel-efficient 5-speed manual gearbox is standard on all MAZDA 3 i models. In addition, a 5-speed Sport AT automatic transmission, with a manual-shift mode, is also available on both s and i models.
